Instinct
Instinct is how we react to a given situation without thinking. Instantaneous reaction. Our instinct can be programmed to do "better or worse" things - for ourselves
and/or others. MARketers reprogram our instinct (And resultant behavior) with their incessant advertising. CULTure reprograms us by leading us to think
certain behaviors are acceptable or unacceptable. Our PARents' (PAR=even in Spanish. Similar to PA(I)R) behavior also strongly influences what we accept
as right / wrong / normal / abnormal.

Diamond advertising
Associating love with diamonds. Doesn't love come from within?...don't need diamonds. Yet, we see this message.......
May be familiar to students of Marketing 101. Going further -- what is LOVE? Hint: Check the WHO'S CRYZY section.
But the "message / lesson" goes beyond just selling diamond rings - it fuels the idea that we have to GIVE ANYTHING at all.
Aishwarya Rai - De Beers Diamond Commercial - 1993 SPOT De Beers diamond 10 year anniversary ring
DeBeers "Declaration" (2003) -- Kay Jewelers Valentines Commercial
A Diamond is Forever TV commercial (2007) -- De Beers Blood Diamond Commercial
It is one thing to intellectually know about this trickery - it is quite another to translate that into action - to not fall for the tricks. Catchy music, creative effects, popular spokepersons.
Even students of Marketing 101 will fall victim to many of the tricks as they are so deeply embedded in our minds. That is where Mind / No Mind will help you.

MARketers --> MALketers (R-L substition)--> MAL KET --> MAL KAT --> BAD CAT
Making a blanket statement about returning to instinct without noting how our
instinct has become contaminated is incomplete and perhaps dangerous.
------
Some more thoughts about instinct may be found by watching this series. There are numerous incorrect points of analysis - but it is another data point.
Favorite part - sniffing genes - episode 2. Also hidden camera showing difference men and women with casual sex.
It is easy to confuse instinct vs CONditioning. CONditioning on a mass scale.
Frames so many things based on reproduction. Shows problem when "science" has split completely from "other explanations / religion" / mythology
Also assumption - all about passing on our genes
Lots of assumptions that certain emotions are "hard-wired" into instinct.
ep3 - assuming competition and losing is unpleasant
read zoo book
enjoy - part of 2nd child - more likely to be radical thinkers. Instinct to get attention
wrong - hard wired to avoid losing face -- but if we have no face
high production values. Studies animals and humans.
