My First Olympics (Olympia, Greece)
Not that long ago, I wanted to attend the Olympics. My first try was for the Sydney 2000 games. I had event tickets in hand and was ready to fly to Australia. Alas, due to family complications, I had to cancel that trip. I made it to Australia the next year and managed to be in Canberra (Capital) with a friend during 9/11. That was interesting. Everyone has their own little story of - Where was I? A neighbor of mine in California was the closest, he had just changed flights from one of the air missiles out of Boston. I don't remember the reason.
My next try was in 2004...for Athens, Greece. It was coming during the latter part of my big world trip. Alas, I returned for my sister's wedding in the US, and didn't take my return flight to London to keep traveling. I ran out of mental gas. I think an old blog entry talks about it. That is when I started to write my first book.
So....my dad says maybe we will go to Beijing, China for the 2008 Olympics. I don't know about that, but I'm in Olympia, Greece right now. In a way...these will be my first Olympics. Spiritual (Home) of the Olympics. Fitting is it not? I will visit the site and museum tomorrow.
Italy was busy. So many sights to see. I have plenty of photos for the future but the most memorable one perhaps is in the Vat-ICAN. Smack dab in the middle of San Pietro Square is a tower/monument. And there are FOUR LIONS facing in each direction. Roaring out their lies for the world to hear. Will you be conned? Oh, there are more lions in Greek history and in Roman history, and it just gets ridiculous. More fodder for the fire.
I'm also glad to leave Italy behind for it is a land of vampires. So many people wearing sunglasses even when it isn't bright. More on this later.
I've been so busy seeing things, meeting people, and traveling, that I just don't get the right amount of time to write more blog entries. But, I leave with this statement:
I WILL KNOW every major city that will be hit by a nuclear missile.
...Good for 'my' Detroit Tigers. As I wrote in Age of Light - Animal Kingdom in early August...they would win the ALCS, but lose the world. This they did indeed. Truth is, even if they won the World Series, they would lose that too. For it isn't really a world series. Didn't the NBA Stars lose to Argentina or some other team.....
Ciao (Oh, that's Italian.....don't know how to write it in Greek)
