Enough of Asia! (Bangkok, Thailand)

Perhaps it is fitting that in my taxi cab ride yesterday to go buy some final doo-dads, I got into a car accident. Mind you, not serious. I didn't bring my camera with me, so I don't have any photos. The young driver was heading up a major street and a newer Honda Civic was parked waiting to take a turn, he didn't brake in time and we rear ended it. The Honda only sustained what looked to be like blue paint rub off. The woman driving, got out of her car in a hurry - looking very frustrated. The cab's hood popped up and needless to say - that was my exit sign. I was unbelted in the backseat. No harm, no foul. Not my time I guess.

I got out and hailed another cab. A fitting end to my stay here.

Here are some photos of notorious Bangkok traffic in the mid 1990s I think. The last picture is the place I was near - the MBK.

[The traffic isn't quite so bad I think now - with some exceptions, and especially at peak hours - mostly due to the recent opening of the subway system and a skytrain in 1999. Mass transit works!]

Anyway...well I'm glad to be leaving Asia. I've had enough of the heat (37C/97F!), pollution, and crowds. I probably won't be back for quite a long time. As for other places I originally was planning on - I've decided to not to go to the Philippines, PNG, Indonesia, or the Solomons. I just don't have the stomach for going to remote places just to dive at the moment. Perhaps, partially influenced by a somewhat disappointing Maldives. You can read a trip report here:

Busy working, not blogging!

I haven't updated this journal in over 1.5 months. Not very good for a traveler I guess. If you read the trip report on the link above you will see that I certainly have been writing about my travels, just not on this website. I guess I have been seeking out specific feedback by going to audience-specific message boards. Although I have been working on figuring out categories and topics for a future Circus of Life message board.

Besides, I have been busy working on my book, which is nearing completion, so I wouldn't have many adventures to write about in the last month anyway. Most of the editing is complete and I only need a little time to do clean up work and formatting for potential agents and publishers. I've been busy renewing my knowledge of grammar and learning about the book publishing industry and process. The Internet has been quite helpful to say the least.

well....kind of a boring post I think...

PS: If you think Bangkok traffic is bad -- check out this post of mine on a message board focusing on urban planning called Cyburbia:
