Introduction

Two Asian elephants in Sri Lanka that were part of a sixty-five strong herd.
How many animals have you seen in the wild? (apart from human animals)
It was a simple question that I asked on a travel bulletin board -- July 2005+ - What animals have you seen in the WILD? (Boots n All)
I didnīt recall ever reading or hearing anyone ask this question before, online, or in person, let alone making a list. I wondered if people
even knew the difference. After all, many peopleīs exposure to wild animals is only through zoos (Not all "wild"), or the television, books, or magazines.
In some places all the wild animals have been killed, eaten, or scared off.
In others - they are only small and relatively benign - such as squirrels and small birds. Almost invisible.
Could the recognition & knowledge of the difference between wild and domesticated animals / beings, be lost in our civiLIZed world?
A civilized world full of docile pets, animals used for sport, trophy, amuseMENt, labor, and CONsumption.
Somewhere along the timeline of my journey in life I developed an affinity for visiting animals in the wild.
Maybe it was an instinctual thing, or maybe all those nature documentaries and books inspired me to go beyond the safety and
sterileness of zoos. Or maybe, I just knew zoos were an illusion whose appeal to me was fading fast. Maybe it was just illusions in general.
Maybe it was the adrenaline rush and adventure! It was all of these.
This section then is a catalog of the animals I have seen in the wild -- and more importantly, what I learned from these collective experiences.
About ourselves, our history, and of all things - the Creation story of Genesis in the Bible.
Many of the ideas in this section and the 2012 website have been incorporated into a fiction book - it is titled Quiet Freedom.
If reading a fictional story is easier for you to learn / enjoy - then this book may be of interest to you.
