I wasn't familiar with this term until I saw a
MSNBC documentary (January 2007) about this guy recently. That is
why he is my featured CON man in this section. In the story he is
interviewed and he ends up stating that he prefers the term CONfidence
man as opposed to CON man. March 12, 2006 - Dateline: Catch him if you can (MSNBC) - To Catch a Thief (MSNBC) Noted hustler and 'counterfeit Rockefeller' appears in Seattle court(Seattle Times) Counterfeit Rockefeller (Court TV) - Christopher_Rocancourt (Wiki) - Oct 04 - The Fakes (Forbes) - Confidence trick (Wikipedia) - Confidence Man (Dictionary) Maybe you can think of more. Stock (Internet bubble!) and bond speculators, deceptive CEOs (Corporate finance scandals), cult leaders, etc... We DO NOT NEED CONfidence. We just need to
BE. |

Comedy Central: Shows - CON - The comic side of CON.
CON Air (Wiki) - CON is short for CONvict. People who have been in prison are often described as an Ex-CON
Costa Del 'Con' Part 1 - Video News Live - VideoNewsLive.com (CNN)
Graphic scale...of pros and cons
Word-DNA– CON….PROs and CONs…don´t want either…just BE. Middle Way!
Question: But doesn't CON mean with?
Answer: The root for with is CO / CU

Not every word that starts with con is 'Bad,' but a
very high percentage of them.
Some of them are so ingrained in our everyday
use that perhaps their 'original' meaning
has been lost/distorted or maybe you
just don't see it.

What does this tell us? It tells us that the CON word/sound pattern has remained very stable among the Romance Languages (Wiki). The root of this pattern I'm showing is from the English language. I studied French in school and now live in a Spanish speaking country - soon to be taking classes on that too. There are plenty of words that are different, but why are these words so remarkably similar and unchanged through our time? Meditate on that. Romanian incidentally is the only Romance language that formed in Eastern Europe, but at 75% still retains high uniformity. Even Swedish at 50% match isn't bad. Sweden and Denmark being part of more truthful Scandinavia, perhaps that is the reason some KON words disappeared. I DO NOT KNOW. While English and German are both "Germanic" languages, they have developed very differently. Maybe I just don't recognize the sound and spelling of German. I DO NOT KNOW. Below you will find more notes on other language matches. With the exception of Poland, all those other countries don't have many speakers. Which is another reason the pattern MAY disappear more. The less speakers - the less capability to project power, in other words, less arrogance too. Just a theory of mine at the moment. Also below, is an explanation on what is the CON/lie for some of the words - which may not be obvious to you.
If somebody cares to go through the other CON words below, I'll be happy to post the results. I picked the ones I use in my poetry and other appropriate ones. I speak some Mandarin Chinese too, but I am not good enough at it to discern any patterns. Perhaps in 2008 when I plan to travel for 1.5 months in China it will improve enough so that I can see a sound pattern.
