April 29, 2006 - Iranian confrontation fuelled by memories of humiliation (Sydney Morning Herald)  --> Can you say pride?

Even after the Iraq fiasco, they (USA) still think ordinary Iranians are ready to come out onto the streets and topple it, if a resolute West takes on and humiliates its leaders. With the UN Security Council deadline on halting uranium enrichment now expired, Iran's confrontation with the West is likely to get much nastier.

But if Iran's President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad shows alarming apocalyptic tendencies, Bush is pretty worrying too: he is said to see taking out Iran's nuclear program as a God-given mission, a dangerous but necessary action that only a president nearing the end of his maximum term can carry out.

Nor is he ruling out use of nuclear weapons, the "bunker-busting" tactical nukes that have a peculiar fascination for the US right, even though they can't penetrate more than six metres into the softest earth, and release clouds of radioactive fallout.

I read this at a Barnes and Noble in Washington DC in the summer of 2003 - it was that gripping. Get a better understanding
of how the US and Britain meddled in the affairs
of Iran which led to the Iran we see today. For oil of course.
