When I first picked up on this weakness of the word believe, I never thought that I would it turn into an entire section on its own -- as you see now.
During my recent travels, I learned from people in different countries how similar the the way we use believe is.

Spanish speaking nations

increible means incredible or unbelievable in Spanish (Lots of synonyms in Spanish!).
Believers are called creyentes.  Opposite of increible is creible.

Latin = CREdere, make believe = SIMulare

Yiddish - gleybn and ??? (Presumably ungleybn)

Old Hebrew -  #0539 - aw-man - faithful, trust, believe.  --> amen
believe = aw-man, aman --> copy to MAN or Languages - Believe or both

Japan - no??

On my future travels, I will take much better notes on just how exactly the word is used.
