JACK - GOOD
|
JACK of all Trades A Jack tends to be a person who is pretty good
at a lot of different things (Not "all" things!). Perhaps quite good at a few specific
areas, but usually not a hardcore expert. Though this hardcore
label is relative. The knowledge of many areas often serves to improve
ability at individual tasks, making the Jack look hardcore in one
area, even though they are not. A main goal
is to never lose sight of the big picture, yet knowing enough
details to accomplish a job. |

SpeciaLIZe The lie of specialization is that as each of us does more and more narrowly focused jobs - whether by function, or by industry, we then lose sight of the bigger picture. We acquire tunnel vision and become shortsighted. Even if the work is more varied, it might only be mental (Office workers) Rather than mental and physical. Vice versa too. - Besides, doing "one thing" over and over is BORING! Is it not? - Our economic system encourages people to specialize. You get paid more money the better you are at one specific job in some (most?) industries. Whether super high profile and pay like sports athletes, or low profile ones like office based jobs. Some exceptions...but based on my observation. The system has even placed a few nations into a bind when they overspecialized on one or two exports. When there was a bump in demand - or supply - things got a bit ugly. It even extends to ways of non-working living. Some people find it very difficult to stay at anything below X# of star rated hotels. When I travel, I stay at a mix of youth hostels, camping, people's homes (Which I should do more of), cheap hotels, and 1 to 5 star hotels. I get a varied perspective / state of mind. ...and it has applied to "religions" too....hmm...fanatics? Fanatics aren't always the killing type. |
