The year 2012 is seen as significant by some due to it being the end of the Mayan calendar. The Mayans of Central America were excellent astronomers and developed a calendar system more accurate than the one most of the world relies on today - the Gregorian Calendar (Wikipedia). There are many predictions and speculations regarding what will happen at the end of 2012. Similar to perhaps what people thought might happen in the year 2000. Except the year 2000 / Y2K was driven more by the hype surrounding the changing of a computer date, not a cosmic event. The more well informed, knew that the year 2001 was the actual "turn of the millenium" and more significant, if there was any to be. Indeed - it was. Do you remember what happened in 2001? This website is unable to speak specifically about most of the other 2012 predictions. |
